I read a great little book about fifteen or twenty years ago that I need help with finding the title/author.
It was a period piece, set in the eighteenth or nineteenth century. The heroine had sort of a psychic power where she could essentially read minds and feel the pain of others, including animals. Seems like I remember her mother rejecting her because she knew that her mom was cheating with another man. When she grew up, this psychic power caused her pain as she was an outsider and there was a lot of noise in her head that she had trouble sorting out. I remember that she went to Ireland, met a guy whose mind she couldn’t read and he was the lord of somplace and was her love interest. There was a scene with a horse (or maybe a cow or something) giving birth and she almost passed out (or did pass out) because she could feel it’s pain. There was some sort of mystery going on with fairies, fairy rings, missing time and the lord’s house (I think) being haunted.
I know this isn’t a lot of information, but if anyone can help me, I would be eternally grateful. Thanks!
Anna
