I am a man. I enjoy self-help books. Unfortunately, the majority of them, especially in the topic of dating, seem to be written exclusively for the female reader. A few popular examples would be Dr. Phil’s “Love Smart.” or Greg Behrendt’s “He’s Just Not That Into You.”
What is up with this? Why does the self-help industry assume that most men do not want dating/relationship advice & tips? We are not all born as Romeos, for crying out loud!
I spend a lot of time in bookstores browsing these sections. I don’t know the actual number, but I’d estimate that books written for guys accommodate a paltry 25% (at best) of the entire selection.
What’s even worse is: Often a dating advice book that is geared towards men is usually loaded with sophomoric humor if it is written by a man. If it is written by a woman, it’s cynical and is attempting to change us men into something or someone we are not.
Where is a man supposed to get REAL advice in these areas when there so much bias and cynicism?
