What are some good Science Fiction books for a eighth or ninth grade reading level?

Some books I have read that are in the science fiction category are The Artemis Fowl seriesand the Maximum Ride books. If you know of any books similar to these are some science fiction books I may like, please tell me.

   His Dark Materials Trilogy by Philip Pullman. Great books, soon to be made into a movie.

   I would also suggest “The overman culture” by Edmund Cooper.
