Hahahaha, definately have to go with Gone With the Wind. Its not so much trashy, but, Scarlett is definately verrry different! and does a few trashy things (trashy in her time, of course)! It also taught a lot about the war while following this interesting woman through the course of a few years. If you haven't read it, I would suggest it, it is a good read, although rather long, Margaret Mitchell did a wonderful job with it.

The Queen's Fool
The Other Boleyn Girl
The Constant Princess
(all by Philipa Gregory I think)

The Queen's Own Fool by Jane Yolen

The Other Boleyn Girl is the only one i would realy consider 'romance-y'...

Medieval Scotland and England?
Hannah Howell -
Lynn Kurland -

Karen Marie Moning has a time travel series in which several of her books take place in medieval Scotland as well -

Sandy Blair's Highlander books are also fun reads taking place in medieval Scotland -

Teresa Medeiros "A Whisper of Roses" (my favorite of her books) takes place in Scotland -

Christina Dodd has several of her romance books taking place in medieval England (Candle in the Window, Castles in the Air, Once a Knight and A Knight to Remember) -
