Dean Koontz has very good stories in the who done it fashion. If i was going to suggest two i would say The Husband and Velocity. Great books
If you like something a little more modern but with a twist check out thee Dresden Files Series of books by Jim Butcher. They are a mix of sci fi, fantasy, mystery, detective, and action. Neat storeies.
